8 French Artists Scheduled To Perform At Coachella 2007!
The biggest US festival, set to take place in the Californian desert from the 27th to the 29th of April and already sold out, will feature 6 French artists for the first time since its creation.
This high-profile festival (which programmed Depeche Mode, Pixies, Radiohead, The Cure, Daft Punk and many other top acts in the past) is a perfect opportunity for French artists to show their talent on the American territory. For the first time ever this year, the line up boasts 6 French produced artists;showing the growing interest for the French repertoire in the US.
The production work and DJ talent of David Guetta will be heard on Friday April 27th, following the release of ‘Guetta Blaster’ in the United States in March. On the same day, Digitalism will most definitely rock the crowd with their thumping yet refined electro, building the anticipation of their upcoming album ‘Idealistic’, tentatively set to drop in June.
On Saturday April 28th, Justice will confirm all the praises they received for the past 2 years and prepare the US release of their album in June. Gotan Project will also perform with a decidedly stronger emphasis on the more organic roots of tango, as can be heard on their successful 2006 record ‘Lun?tico’.
Last but not least, two of the biggest French acts of the new millennium will perform on Sunday, April 29th: the classy French pop/electro duo Air will have a chance to defend its new cosmic album ‘Pocket Symphony’ in front of the American audience; and Manu Chao, a world music superstar who has yet to reach his full potential in the US, will entice America before the release of his upcoming album later this year. And last but not least, DJ Mehdi and Busy P will also be performing at Coachella…
Among other scheduled acts, the US audience will enjoy performances by Bj?rk, Red Hot Chili Peppers, a reunited Rage Against the Machine, Arctic Monkeys, Sonic Youth? This most impressive line up was recently unveiled on their website, prompting an all-out battle for tickets and helping the festival to sell out faster than ever.

The festival ‘Les Femmes s’en M?lent’ (Women are Implicated) will take place the 1st, 2nd and 4th of May at the Borderline venue in London.
For 10 years now, the festival ‘Les Femmes s’en M?lent’ has for purpose to defend a certain idea of the feminine musical scene. Voluntarily oriented towards independent music, the festival is focused on quality rock, intimate folk and original pop which is rarely played on the radio. Since 1997, this original festival has had the privilege to bring on board artists such as Nouvelle Vague, Metric, Ann Clark, Brigitte Fontaine, Coralie Cl?ment, and is certainly not ready to stop.
Initially, the ‘Femmes s’en M?lent’ festival tried to diffuse itself throughout French territory. But after the popularity it has gained over the years, the growing bird needs to spread its wings abroad thus explaining how the tour organizer, Imperial, has set up three dates in the classy Borderline venue in London.
The event will take place over three nights, each evening offering a different set of French and British acts, because the festival is focused on promoting feminine rock from any country.
The enchanting Emilie Simon will perform with Catriona Irving the 1st of May, followed the next night by Tender Forever with Hafdis Huld and Bunny Rabbit, to finally end with the electro rockers Pravda the 4th of May, accompanied by the new French rock phenomenon Plastiscines, without forgetting Rose Kemp and Lake Me.
Even though today, many French artists are performing more and more in London, there is still much to do for the promotion of French artists in Britain, especially for the new emerging scene which is making much commotion. This is why, with the help of the French Music Export Office, the ‘Femmes s’en M?lent’ festival has invited a consequent number of publishers, agents, labels, distributors and other music professionals to come over to the gigs, and experience the buzz.
This event is major in terms of importance concerning the promotion of the cited artists. Singers such as Emilie Simon, who has her discs released in many countries except for the UK, wishes strongly to make it on British soil, because all in all… Who doesn’t ?
