It’s time to face the fact that with America’s aging population it may have an equally growing, unaddressed senility problem.

Before people read the title and think, paying less attention to the subheading, it advocates 40 year olds getting Botox to look vital enough in the workplace or young professionals resorting to advanced acne treatments, even plastic surgery to land a job, plastic surgery for bullied teens absent major defects, legitimate medical reasons; rest assured that will not be the focus, except to call it what it is, absurd. Nor is it going to suggest the moment you reach a certain age you should ‘shrivel up and die,’ you’ve outlived your usefulness, have nothing left to contribute to society, should slink off into a hole never to be seen or heard from again; less drastically, have to retire and go on social security, middle age is too late to reach for your dreams, try something new, reinvent yourself, open a business, turn a hobby, lifelong love into a money making venture bringing joy and happiness to others, fulfilling a community need, too late attend college, go back to school. Multitudes of middle aged and retiree persons do these things daily to the betterment of themselves and their families, remain fixtures in their towns, neighborhoods operating barber shops, teaching home ec to children, graying grannies participating in reading programs, remaining kindergarten teachers; they are credits to their generation all. Neither will it spend pages and ink extoling why legal ages for key rites of passage (drinking alcohol chiefly) should be amended, lowered, though there is a place for that, you just won’t find it here; you will find a bit of a get off their back message aimed at millennials, so called gen Y intertwined with a much bigger picture. Rather it is to explain why America’s aged, elderly, older populations aren’t venerated in the same way they are throughout Asia and other parts of the world, there isn’t that same level of respect found in highlighted other places, hint it isn’t a youth obsessed culture and steady consumption of celebrity, entrainment magazines, reality TV. That there is a fundamental explanation for how Americas older demographic is treated, why the stereotype of being dumped in a nursing home and forgotten still persists; again it isn’t ungrateful children pawning off their supposed to be loved one onto professional caregivers sans a second thought, too focused on their own career, dreams and goals to be bothered with their increasingly infirmed parent(s). We’ve been sounding off for years about the mass baby boomer retirement and what it meant for everything from the workforce, to social programs, to their children, regularly referred to as the sandwich generation caught between caring for their own budding, growing families and attempting to care for their aging parents; facing tough economic times often unable to move back to their childhood home, in a different city, county, state, unable to afford to have them move in to their small rented apartment, home. Alongside warnings, cautions about needed preparations to handle our rapidly expanding aged population are exposés, number projections on Alzheimer’s, dementia, cognitive impairment’s devastating impact on older citizens and what it means in terms of caring for them as their disease progresses yet their body elsewise remains intact. But once more that’s just a primer to where we currently are leading into the larger point, those people walking around, obviously older, though not extremely so, who are presumed to have all their faculties and functions, show no blatant signs they are suffering from any cognitive difficulty, dementia, forget Alzheimer’s, unless you are a doctor making said diagnostics all day through a standard work week, people who would be thought of as sources of wisdom, dispensers of sage advice in other cultures repeatedly acting more childish than their generation younger counterparts here. While some are representing a new, nuanced stage of vitality, redefining what it means to be age X in America today, there are those remaining stock examples against raising the retirement age, against elevating social security/Medicare eligibility ages, because they plainly, from a cognitive standpoint can’t do the job they’ve done for 30 years instead are prone to bizarre, obnoxious, bordering on criminally disruptive behavior. Frequent readers will perhaps recognize the train of thought here having at least skimmed my pieces on, who exactly is the entitled generation, depictions of older citizens behaving badly, causing scenes, seemingly incapable of following the basic rules and directions governing a civil society; what video sharing sites like YouTube have done in the era of millennial, young people bashing showcasing Girls Gone Wild escapades, hedonistic spring breaks, unabashed drug use, proudly published fights is to equally display, to anyone interested, the growing quantity of videos featuring older people unable to simply wait their turn in a line, and it isn’t due to wobbly legs and walkers, pained joints, who have out of control fits when told the price of renewing a driver’s license/state ID (under 12.50), surprised and upset by standard banking policies such as the fee extracted for cashing the check of a non-account holder, needing to have your ID to conduct account business and it must be current, not expired. Supposedly to be venerated adults ranting about the abysmal lack of respect present among younger people primarily because they didn’t preface their question to the senior person on the street, ahead in line with sir or ma’am; discounting the number of women who don’t like to be referred to as ma’am making them feel old, men who dislike being addressed Mr. and their last name by, even casual work acquaintances, often relaying it makes them begin looking for their dad, seeking to carve out their own identity, men or women either one who directly ask people to call them by their first name, the loved community member everyone calls aunt, auntie and their name, uncle and their name, again by request. As likely to have a mini nervous breakdown because someone was rude to them, who behave as if they will spontaneously combust, as if their world will end, their life is over if someone mildly disrespects them, whether that was their intention or not. Because the younger person, who is of age themselves, 40 year old confronted by 70 year old let’s say, simply refuses to be ordered around by stranger X recognizing they too are grown, functional adults and have the right to make choices within the law same as the older person, both do not exist solely to make life easier for the other. Older individuals who get next to pathological when confronted with facts, that there are not replacement parts for microwaves, when encountering someone who understands their rights and is willing to use them, stand up for them, be assertive against people trying to take advantage of them or force their adherence to the prohibition of their pet peeve, not a law, ordinance, business/service policy. Exposing the curious dichotomy, juxtaposition between our espoused roots, firm belief in freedom of speech and expression held up beside older reactions to it, our stated value we place on honesty, forthrightness, directness, the ability to tell it like it is whether in daily life with friends, family, coworkers or combatting our existing climate of purportedly stifling political correctness. Each plainly demonstrating we (they specifically) believe in freedom of speech only and until someone says something we don’t like, even if true and stated calmly, rationally, no attempt to be rude, expresses themselves in a way we are uncomfortable with; particularly important for women and young people continually exploited and harassed by would be ‘elders,’ their long thought ‘wisdom.’ We (they) value forthrightness, directness, the ability to tell it like it is only and until we (they) are the ones being told off , until someone refuses to give up those routinely named positive character qualities to satisfy another person’s exaggerated views on politeness, acceptable speech. They want, desire those qualities until a ‘child’ says something ‘disrespectful,’ be it the 3 year old who tells a gift giver they hate the dress given or the color yellow let slide at 3-5, by 7 expected to never utter something so impolite, or a younger adult who opposes factually inaccurate information, who stands up for themselves. Particularly poignant beyond the bias women face in the workplace striving for leadership positions, considering the cat calling they are subjected to on the streets of a place called the free world, congresswoman Wendy Davis advising women to stop being so nice driven home expertly by the salon title linked below “Safety or politeness? That time I let myself be taken captive — because I didn’t want to be rude.” Yet when my friend told off a bus driver, yes including swear words, for chastising her and her children without reason while letting the person ahead of her also with children get on sans a lecture, she simultaneously had to endure the astonished scorn of 2 80 year old women, the first prone to phrases like well I never… having to be schooled by the second on why things aren’t the way they used to be, how much people have to stick up for themselves lest they be horribly mistreated, society’s doormat. What’s been missing up to now, even in my own works attempting to prove young people are no worse now than generations before, are no more or less in their feelings of ‘entitlement’ than people at least twice their age, repeatedly less so, is the core why behind it. Overshadowing generation engrained, cultural norm engrained paradigms encompassing the roughly 2 decades comprising their child and early adulthoods causing now older adults to think and behave a certain way, is instead senility, cognitive decline and never treated mental illnesses afflicting staggering percentages in poorer pockets of the country stigmatized by seeking treatment, persons over 50 who haven’t had access to common practice mental health management, far from cutting edge mental health treatment, leaving us sizeable portions of the population foggy, confused and emotionally unstable.

Yes the mayor’s comments below are reprehensibly repugnant, not the least of which because he is a public official, also called a public servant meant to represent, advocate the public interest of people in his city, and astoundingly reaching new heights on the hypocritical scale precisely because he is of advanced age himself, a few short years away from the adult diapers and care facilities he denigrates, but equally because he attacks the disabled as well, calling them not full human beings owing to their physical, developmental delays, openly asking what good were they. However his comments aren’t a result of how little value we assign to aged persons in our society, how little we honor and respect older persons, the vast knowledge accumulated throughout a lifetime, things they could teach younger citizens, guiding them during major stages of life common to all human beings. In fact he stands an example of the exact opposite, exactly why we don’t respect our elders as much as other westernized, non-westernized cultures, directly because they do and say things identical to video 1 below, our ranting mayor in all his shameful glory. Key to the reverence in Asia, older citizens being listened to in regards to what they have to say, is that they have something worthwhile and meaningful to say in the first place; even that may be waning as well considering China has passed a law, circa 2013, making it possible for elderly parents to sue their children for lack of visiting and Japan has its own aging demographic problem as their aren’t younger persons alive, of age to replace older workers in farming, industries compounded by a shortage of nurses to care for their rapidly aging population. Keeping in mind there’s a long history of such deplorable behaviors, actions surpassing the mayor’s America, worldwide across modern decades; he’s just our best latest citizen X case, low level politician who should be capable of doing marginal good sans corruption added to celebrities, known names having reasons to be in front of cameras to fall from grace. Whether Bill Cosby, the true pervy man behind the persona, sidestepping content aired on Fox News, the exposed sex-capades, harassment of Roger Ailes behind the scenes there described as his personal locker room, down to the Greenwich Connecticut town meeting board member Christopher von Keyserling (71) charged with (genital) pussy grabbing, while announcing he no longer has to worry about political correctness, all aging men. Followed closely by slightly more ordinary citizens, whether you’re talking about notorious judges, almost always old, white and white-haired, doling out light sentences for rape, sexual assaults, teacher student relationships, instance below ending in the student’s suicide, claiming at 14 she behaved older than her chronological age. When it’s not that it’s the 53 year old state parole judge, one Robert Beltrani, who bellowed he “does justice and f-ing kills people before sucker punching a lawyer at a party, unsurprisingly intoxicated; judge Robert Nalley (72) caught on tape ordering a bailiff to stun a defendant representing himself when he wouldn’t stop talking, except the judge did ask him how he wanted to be addressed at which point he stated his name, implying response to a direct question. His reaction—to impatiently reply “I didn’t ask you what your name was, I asked you how you wanted to be addressed; confusing since, in such a formal setting, especially on the part of the authority figure, person in charge the address is usually Mr. Ms., if marital status known, Mrs. and their last name, then demand his bailiff tase him resulting in horrific screams reverberating through the court. Finally banned for life from the bench, given 1 year probation, fined $50,000 and remitted to anger management classes, post pleading guilty to a civil rights violation; easily surmised repeatedly finding himself on the wrong side of the law admitting he recently also slashed the tires of a woman who parked in his spot. Down to every day averages Joe’s, Josephine’s, ordinary citizens holding no titles, teachers, coaches, educational authority figures who lorded their power over young people simply because they can, treating them too as ‘less than human’ due to not yet having come of age; who remembers the boy paddled at school for failing a paper, not a breach of discipline, forget parents were unaware there was a corporal punishment policy, forget the middle schooler, until that paper, was an honor student. Most glaringly were the sadistic things said to him about the teacher’s father beating him, him beating his own kids and in turn he was going to beat the boy, totally unrelated to a lack of effort, slacking, refusing to turn in work and sidestepping maybe he just didn’t understand the material, what the teacher wanted, blissfully unaware of his poor performance, his flagging comprehension until seeing his grade. More than a few saw the video of a substitute teacher using the belt, from his own pants, to hit students allegedly trying to break up a fight plainly already dispersed; him causing the chaos charging about the room, knocking things over, causing terrified screams as children tried to get away from him. Or the 61 year old teacher who threated supposedly unruly 3rd graders saying she would unlock the school’s, classroom’s outside door(s) letting in a gunman to shoot them; both older persons approaching retirement age, past it. Leading to the logical question we’re supposed to venerate and respect that, what the latter administrator struggled to explain as an extreme lack of judgement; we’re expected to revere the teacher (71) who kicked over a pre-school special needs child, either carelessly or callously on purpose, in view of school surveillance cameras, or another who literally grabbed and picked up, slamming against the wall, next grabbing by the face a kindergartener coming out of the bathroom, again in ready view of school surveillance she had to know was there and for what, forgetting to ask permission before going to the bathroom, taking too long? Who likewise remembers the California school where the entire staff had to be replaced after a photo print shop stumbled onto sexual abuse including duct taping elementary age kids’ eyes and mouths closed, letting roaches call across their faces and putting his seamen on crackers forcing them to eat it? Think that video is 5 years old and irrelevant, how many people were exposed to have turned a blind eye in the Jerry Sandusky disaster; we just had a 50 year old teacher run off with, probably kidnap, his 15 year old student, how about the gymnastics doctor (53) who apparently spent years sexually abusing underage U.S. gymnastics participants disguised as medical care, massage for muscle ailments while he used his fingers to penetrate their anus or vagina. Nightly news exposés sparked by investigative reporting originally published in the Atlanta Journal Constitution blowing the whistle on just how widespread and prevalent sexual abuse of patients by doctors is across America; male doctors fondling usually female patients while examining rashes, rubbing them in private areas, manipulating the patients hand to rub the doctor while coming out of anesthetic. A divorce lawyer, Michael Fine age 59, just made headlines after being convicted, serving 12 years, for hypnotizing his clients (6 total) in order to then fondle and molest them, absent knowledge or consent for anything that transpired, kidnapping with a sexual motivation; we certainly don’t want said behavior emulated, venerated and respected noting it’s 100% criminal, to say nothing of absolutely devastating to victims. Illustrations from largely one aspect of society alone proving why respecting your elders could land you in jail; that they hold some of our most trusted and sacred positions only multiplies their implied betrayal, added to the assumption age is supposed to bring wisdom, elders are supposed to look out for younger persons, help if they can. Dually our infamous mayor is an answer to another posed question detailed in the introduction pertaining to why so many old people end up in a nursing home, apart from the children who can’t leave work, career, home, move cross country, those facing astronomical amounts of assistance their loved one needs, doctor recommendations they require 24/7, round the clock, institutionalized, professional facility care, varying dementia suffers who are beyond assisted living, technological help aides; frankly not enough attention is paid to those children only ones who cruelly dump their relatives into a home and ‘forget them. Personally having seen 2 family members reach that point well before death, where no family could keep caring for them, fully aware of the substandard nursing home they were in only possessing Medicare/Medicaid insurance I know it’s not black and white even when forced into the ‘choice.’ Returning us to people exemplified by the Warren Michigan mayor housing horrific attitudes toward the old, infirmed, disabled, or people who spent their younger years being mean, vindictive, abusive to the general public never mind their children physically, mentally, emotionally, sometimes even sexually, mistreating individuals they should love, care for, nurture, yet we’re mystified when they are ‘dumped in a nursing home’ left utterly alone, wonder at the cruelty almost unavoidable in nursing homes, marvel at how someone can mistreat that sweet old lady, nice old man. Could it plausibly be they weren’t always so sweet; rarely analyzed the ones who most definitely aren’t, are belligerent and exasperating to staff merely trying to provide care, but the 1950’s and 60’s, early 70’s were the American ideal, the era we should go back to. Independent if you grew up in that era with an alcoholic dad unable to cope with his life not lining up like Leave it to Beaver, saw your mom get beaten in a domestic violence situation, still heard your pastor then extolling the virtues of marriage and marital fidelity, evils of divorce no matter what, either ignoring what he knew/suspected some husbands were doing to their wives or abhorrently oblivious; how much respect are you inclined to give any of the above persons, let’s earnestly hope the answer is none. If you were/are one of the increasing numbers sexually abused, harmed by family members, priests, teachers, community leaders and the ‘trusted’ other adults you tell, your parent(s) don’t believe you, for a whole host of reasons justice was never served in regards to the abuse, neglect, mental, psychological, emotional torment suffered, on whatever level, is it any monumental surprise you turn your back on them long before their nursing home years predictably see their suffering there a type of karma, poetic justice, comeuppance? Not to mention legally documented, later convicted cases of abuse where the child/children were removed from said parent(s), they justifiably had no contact with after adulthood; one of the reasons that California school insisted on all new staff wasn’t just to appease outraged parents but predicated on the premise: how could this man have been here 30 odd years and no one seen anything suspicious. Forgotten nursing homes were created for those who, shock and awe, went past their child bearing years, into their golden years, their dotage not having had children to fawn over them, see to their care during that season of their life, all their friends have either died or are in care homes of their own in different towns, counties, states; they do too exist, despite concerted efforts to pretend the opposite when discussing the issue. Bottom line some aged adults, senior citizens, in growing number percentages, aren’t revered, respected and venerated, doted on, because they don’t deserve it, if you behave/behaved like any of the people previously listed in the paragraph and more besides during your vital years, you aren’t being respected, sought after for advice, your every word hung on as if it were spewing forth from the oracle and Delphi, because you don’t deserve to be. If your information is outdated, inaccurate, irrelevant, muddled and disorienting, why on earth should they be listening so intently? Relatively unquestioned is if other countries elders deserve the veneration they’re getting throughout Asia or elsewhere when it was an Italian court who believed rape couldn’t have happened to the victim because her skinny jeans couldn’t possibly have been removed without her help, the judge , typifying old white and wrinkled, then ordering the acquitted man to only date women wearing ‘hammer pants’ seemingly too flippant for the charges brought; Italy the same country that tried Amanda Knox multiple times, post forensic evidence errors and a confession by a man already behind bars, investigators allowed to keep their jobs. India finally cracking down on its rape culture after a girl’s gang grape on a bus there, remember China had to resort to laws to get children to visit their parents in a country where it makes the least sense, young, working age people are forced to travel long distances to find jobs, have little money remaining after basic needs to plan long trips, send care packages; Asia second only to the Middle East in its longstanding human rights violations, one thing to be said for significant quantities of middle eastern and African human rights issues is the wars being fought in those regions. Asia not immune to fisticuffs, absolute brawls on government floors discussing legislation up for vote; democracies a-la South Korea, Taiwan, exulted places held up for their elder adoration, Japan following all the other pervious soviet bloc countries, middle eastern pseudo democracies in their propensity to get in WWE style fights on/in government buildings, over disliked government initiatives. Maybe between the 2, human rights violations and violent behavior in government, we need to worry a lot less about who wins the venerating their elders contest globally and focus instead on what example those elders are setting, as opposed to the example we think they are setting, for their children and on looking world, both in terms ourselves, our elders and keenly scrutinizing older persons abroad before jumping on the blind respect bandwagon, again thinking someone else has it all figured out while we embarrassingly don’t, continuously lag behind.

Got-a love the first link below, not necessarily agreeing with calling baby boomers a generation of sociopaths, although that is a clinical psychiatric diagnosis, and emphatically unsure their listed ‘sociopathic tendencies’ were confined to their politics, not their parenting, but refreshing to see an author, a middle aged adult, rather than a 20, something, 30 something, just turned 18 aged person tell the truth about boomers, openly challenge our enduring ideal. Compounding general meanness, cattiness, pettiness, whose underlying cause may or may not be organic brain disease, early onset mental health problems identified under the definition sociopath, senility, dementia, cognitive impairment, mental instability does explain, better explain the nearly inexplicable racial rants conducted by older white Americans in restaurants, department stores, meltdowns in the grocery aisles, random Americans regularly called the Wal-Martians— individuals of all ages and the antics they get up to in Wal-Mart stores everywhere. Downright zany religious fervor, theories never covered in the bible, the most commonly referenced holy book, expounding, expanding on why people seem so utterly deluded by religion, explains spontaneous explosions of irrational anger and irritation indisputably caught on film. Too often seen is we get so caught up in what these deranged, entitled, worst of American, civil society people are doing we lose any deep thought attempting to answer why, if it is beyond poor upbringings, lack of manners, falling into stereotypes of crotchety old men, grouchy old women, what they said was racist, bigoted, homophobic motivated by religious doctrines, we stop there. Never putting together they fit a basic type: gray, white, salt and pepper hair, horrid documented behaviors extremely common in persons 50 to end of life but can be as young as approaching 40 usually when dealing with mental illness, early onset dementia symptoms, physical characteristics dumpy older women, squat older men, easily upset and confused by the world around them. Sure substances, primarily alcohol, do play a part in altercations, rants, scenes captured then placed on social media, video sharing sites as if to say see how crazy the world really is, openly admitted to police after Lee Schismenos (51) attacked a motorcycle rider and his girlfriend for allegedly being cut off in traffic by the younger duo; admitted to as well when a woman fitting our pattern, based on mugshot pictures, called 9-1-1 wanting someone to bring her chicken wings and cigarettes too intoxicated to get them herself. But then there are cases like multitudes below echoing something deeper and darker, speaking of Wal-Mart, normally it’s the customers shamed on video, ample displays of butt cracks, inappropriate cleavage, exposed thongs, speedos, bizarre outfits, not diminishing the out and out brawls between shoppers over discount items, who bumped into whose cart, the strange assortment of purchases in those carts, younger workers seriously needing to rethink jobs in customer service, mouthing off, being rude, laughing inappropriately at people who can’t pay for food stuffs, ridiculing older individuals, those with disabilities promptly fired, ostracized on social media; except for this elderly Wal-Mart worker chastising black shoppers for entering the store with backpacks and browsing aisles. Becoming irrationally angry and animated, threatening to break his camera if he kept following her, him having hardly moved a foot and kept filming solely because she continued to make a ridiculous scene, escalating when told by a supervisor if she continued the behavior it could cost her, her job. Pictures of why we shouldn’t want seniors forced to work into their retirement years, put under undue, mounting stress arguably contributing to her behavior, documented links between middle age ongoing stress and dementia, Alzheimer’s. Note about the backpacks, public transportation users, homeless persons, shelter dwellers often use backpacks to carry purchased items; I myself have gone to both the local mall and the closest Wal-Mart that way because being disabled and walking with forearm crutches I can’t carry items easily like most mallgoers. Also, on my mall trips I made a day of it, being an avid writer would take notebooks, sketch pad, both to soak up the atmosphere and let it fuel my creativity, backpack serving as a place to house my purse, checkbook debit cards, reading book glasses case so I didn’t have to carry 2 bags. On several occasions I’ve made short trips to Wal-Mart on disabled Para-transit city bus service backpack in tow because of their 3 bag rule to fit maximum numbers of passengers and purchases on accessible vans, never have I been confronted the way these men were, willing to take off their backpacks in store anyway. Next a woman accosting 2 customers in line at an IHOP, news narrator quickly pointing out the absurdity of being shouted down for speaking their native tongue in a place called the international house of pancakes; preceding her comments telling the Spanish speakers to go back to Spain, the primary place, in her mind, they speak Spanish, calmly sitting at their table minding their own business. Attacked woman only getting loud, emotional in response to the older woman’s demands she speak English, to which she responded she speaks English too, an attacker who went on to ask if she wanted the Russians, the Nazi’s there telling her what to do, reiterating Spanish is from Spain. Red flags she may be suffering cognition problems bought up throughout the litany of Facebook comments the other woman’s son’s posted video received after going viral; 1, starting the confrontation at all especially listening closely to her speech denoting she may have been, at one time a foreigner herself, 2 thinking Spain is the primary place where Spanish is spoken discarding Central, South and Latin American countries where Spanish is frequently heard, 3, her reference to having traveled there is typical of dementia sufferers reliving parts of their past, thinking it’s an entirely different, year, decade. Identical scenario, location a Kentucky JC Penney where a woman hears 2 Spanish speakers in a customer service line typical frumpy, salt and pepper haired, wrinkles on her face evident older woman who could be upset at the line’s progression, her bunions, sciatica making her grouchy due to pain, but what does physical discomfort have to do with speaking English, the wild accusation they were on welfare, taxpayers paid for their items, if she were thinking logically she would know stipends for food stamps, TANF or general relief aren’t large enough to go on a massive shopping spree, not that that’s what they were doing at all, video being days before Christmas they have every right to take their, diligently saved money, large or small amount and buy whatever they like; further watching her local/national news would tell her how many of her fellow white Americans, right there in the great state of Kentucky are on varying types of assistance she unfoundedly yells at them for being on, not that speaking another language precludes you from being a citizen. Shoring up the argument there is more wrong with selected individuals than their politics, their stance on particular social issues, public display of appalling behavior, or how rare it should be is the bystanders in the video: woman with blond highlights pulling a face at the woman’s comments, a dark haired woman smiling embarrassedly at the camera disbelieving of the woman’s statements, the older man behind her in line stopping short of shaking his head at her scene. Moving down the line of links, aside from an 84 year old choosing to throw bodily waste on his ‘vandalizing teenage neighbor’ earning himself charges after already giving the police a report on damage done to his lawn, nobody finds it odd this 80 something year old man told police he regularly keeps a bowl of urine close to his front door as self-defense, virtually actions of someone either being malicious or suffering a mental deficit? Watch and think seriously about both the man interrupting the newscast and the guy on camera caught in the background smacking his aging wife; do either seem particularly sane, the news cast invader doesn’t make particular sense, isn’t talking about any issue rather mad the man is in a suit ‘struttn his ass.’ Preponderance of evidence spelling out something bigger than generational parenting habits, shifting social mores and growing frustration with the negatively changing times, according to their general collective point of view, is behind these inarguably atrocious behaviors, outbursts is found analyzing the occurrences these people get upset about: strangers speaking a foreign language amongst themselves, shoppers with backpacks, kids walking past their lawn. A woman ranting about obeying bicycle rules so caught up in her anger she throws her drink at the cyclist who began filming her antics because they were so bizarre, incident playing out in front of a police officer who promptly told her what she had done was battery, to which she responded by getting in his face, insisting she was right; later in the nearly 10 minute video we find she’s been hit twice by bicycles partially explaining both her wariness and her passion for bicycle laws, but as the officer pointed out she had not been hit by him, who had long ago stopped moving and was simply sitting on his bike, thus had no right to throw things at/on him. Battery may seem extreme in this case, however, it would likely be misdemeanor here since the liquid was harmless and not a means of communicable disease, i.e. the bowl of urine incident above; clear too is the officer said this to alert the woman to the seriousness of her over the top behavior, legal options if the man, any future person she treats that way chooses to press charges, his main goal defusing the situation unfolding on the sidewalk, concluding by telling the cyclist not to worry saying she was ‘cracked’ as in mentally unstable and needed medication. Adding final touches of absurdity to the self-created situation, looking at the width of the sidewalk she’s complaining about, unless she was intentionally targeted (gee why would that happen) or the cyclist had no idea how to control his bike, she was in no danger of being run over, injured period. The proceeding 2 bus videos are indicative of public transportation, mass transit nationwide, one identified as in Chicago begs the question is there a TV, Radio, podcast on somewhere we can’t hear or is she literally talking to people things only she can see, visual/auditory hallucinations a documentable psychological malady. Bus filming 2 is a woman telling off a fellow passenger for her mess of children and eating on the bus, which apparently is not allowed; ironically talking about not doing things to disturb other passengers being the loudest person on the bus, probably disturbing the driver with her rant, making it hard to hear announced stops, one of the notable issues in bus video 1, proclaiming at least she can control herself, by not eating on the bus, though the woman being berated mentions being diabetic indicating her eating isn’t to belligerently flout the rules rather not to pass out on the bus frighten and abandon her kids. What besides mental disturbance, cognitive impairment sends a 74 year old to destroying Kim Kardashian books in a Barnes & Noble? Striking too is how calm filming individuals are versus their subjects (exhibit A: woman in pink bathrobe yelling and chasing a young man down the street over vulgar names he allegedly called her, some vague dispute about his car, exhibit B: the racist old woman attacking the mailman after signing for a letter she didn’t want then wanted her signature card back he couldn’t give back by law); easily said because they don’t want to be seen as out of control just like the people they encounter, but it provides yet another contrast to just how strange out of our society’s, nations character it is. It’s entirely possible some of these women are going through menopause depicted of their own volition as making them hot, bitchy, prone to weight gain, men not getting the B12 shot often bestowing on them better moods, more energy, and while a AAA poll says most likely offenders of road rage, most willing to confront another driver are young males, those pollsters apparently haven’t see videos 17, 18 and 19 half of which are women and older. Again reference the ages in the neighbor dispute videos 20 and 21, man who thinks his best recourse to dealing with an annoying neighbor is to bulldoze his fence, throw rocks at his property, dump motor oil in his pool, lie to a judge about attending court ordered anger management putting him behind bars for perjury; woman who thinks crafting a sign announcing her move because neighbor is a douchebag is doing something clever, this is the extent of her problem solving? Lastly marginally switching gears to discuss religion’s intertwinement with dementia, senility and mental illness you immediately notice the age of the pastor who wanted to burn Korans on the 9-11 anniversary, dido the one who kept trying to equally convince his congregation and the world, the rapture and the end of earth as we knew it was coming on a specific date. Even in the Nightline Westboro Baptist Church footage showing a mix of persons picketing, preaching, organizing events, you quickly observe the older leading the younger, constituting potential brainwashing, their pastor Fred Phelps affectionately referred to as gramps, his daughter old enough to be sporting gray in her hair, and true their disdain for homosexuality may be biblically sound, but their methodology violates other stronger tenets of the religion about love, kindness, charity, how they are to witness people into god’s kingdom. However that understandable, if highly disagreed upon, stance trails after ones you’d suspect of filling conspiracy books, the journals of someone undergoing psychotic care or mind altering drug experiments al-a the 1950’s, 60’s 70’s expediently disbanded for the measurable harm done to test subjects; the pastor who thinks Starbucks is poisoning people with the semen of gay persons exposed to Ebola because lots of gay people go there and ‘exchange body fluids,’ in other words have sex, participate in ‘unnatural’ sex. Not a known quantity about Starbucks even in established majoritively LGBT communities and ignores completely heterosexuals caught doing it in unusual places, no shortage of public restrooms, parks, the mile high club anyone? Never mind if you read the entirety of his reference article it unquestionably identifies the rumor of bodily fluids placed in drinks, Ebola or no Ebola, as a hoax, as in totally not real, made up. Another pastor who believes gays are bringing slavery back to the south, why, because before the Supreme Court’s ruling on same sex marriage Mississippi remained the lone southern state to ban adoption by gay couples currently being challenged when Brian Fischer spoke out via his radio show. The catholic league president who thinks organized atheists need metal therapy because they are militants, AKA violent, no awareness of parallels between them and the anti- abortion violent fanatics seeking to kill, murder abortion doctors, who’ve bombed abortion clinics uncaring about innocent workers, women obtaining gynecological care not an abortion; Christian radio host Gordon Klingenschmitt suggesting a little girl, maybe her mother who put her up to it, hired lawyers who also could have ‘put her up to it’ is demonically possessed because she comprehends there is supposed to be a separation of church and state and is willing to says so, murky why they think her response was violent, maybe she just felt bad for her Muslim, Jewish or otherwise classmates—oh. Claims to perform miracles isn’t new for any church, neither are supposed cures, but they’re back again in full force thanks to the internet and a man who put bleach into a concoction said to cure everything from cancer, AIDS to autism confronted by an ABC news investigation exposing the true contents medical experts called poison. Ending this segment on a political note, the Christian TV guest host who thought Donald Trump was the messiah, though Jesus is their messiah according to Christian literature; known Christian heavy weight Pat Robertson who has said multiple times Trump was implementing gods plan proclaiming the GOP healthcare bill would pass based on ‘divine revelation,’ of course it didn’t. All older, balding, grey headed, right age for onset of dementia, greater susceptibility to large life stressors that can trigger mental illness, expressly sounding like they have one or all of the above.

Same factors playing a huge roll in select aspects of violence, armed militia type groups frequently dubbed y’all Qaeda by independent media, understanding Ammon Bundy is the son of Cliven Bundy taught mirroring anti-government sentiments by dear old dad; Bundy senior who became a household name because of a government land dispute, barricading himself and other group members onto seized lands where law enforcement later had to remove them, losing support of small government loving GOP members when he used his 15 minutes of fame to suddenly start commenting on black people. Who, according to Bundy abort their young children and put their young men in jail because they never learned how to pick cotton, pondering out loud to cameras if they were better off as slaves ‘picking cotton and having family life, doing things’ or on government subsidy; descriptions used denoting grandmothers and children, some too young yet to attend school, meaning the older women, past working age minded their grandkids, neighbors children while their parents worked, look for a job, a better job. Sound familiar, it should blatantly echoing Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson who stated he never saw an unhappy black person picking cotton, arguably the mildest of his comments; expanding to homosexuality and bestiality included in a list of things he finds immoral and against Jesus the first 2 listed far too close together for people not to catch the implied comparison he believes homosexuality and bestiality to be alike, who narrowly got out of one controversy only to be thrown into another one when comments on young women, choosing a wife were unearth and on video suggesting men marry teenagers to do house chores instead of go after your wallet. That Bundy senior looks similar aged to George Burns and Robertson easily pushing 65 sheds new light on what their problem is; beyond what era they grew up in, what they no longer understand about the world around them due to their self-imposed isolation, you’re dealing with the ravages of mental decline. The former’s rant is suspect not singularly due to the dastardly things said about blacks, the true, documented factors contributing to higher rates of abortion and incarceration among that demographic, as opposed to what he laid out, but because he doesn’t seem to know machines, not people, pick cotton today; pointing to someone who isn’t merely isolated and ignorant, willfully uniformed, conversely is likely suffering senility, dementia, a detectable level of cognitive impairment in conjunction with his age. His very tendency to fight ‘the government,’ hold up in a compound could be a manifestation of mental disease, dementia or psychological diagnosis, not limited to extremist beliefs, survivalist ideology. Enhancing that probability nationally, cases such as Robert Dear (57 at commission of crime) who yes mumbled rhetoric about save the babies, clearly impacted by the conservative reaction to anti-abortion propaganda videos used to try and derail, effectively shut down Planned Parenthood, yet also fitting a pre-attack pattern of withdrawing from society, living off the grid in remote dilapidated areas, secluded in the woods, restraining orders, altercations with the law, accusations of domestic violence, wild eyed, unkempt even in court, had numerous incoherent outbursts ultimately found mentally unfit to stand trial. John Russel Houser Louisiana movie theater shooter (59 at commission of crime/date of death) lock step with the pre-incident pattern detailed, wasn’t just older, showing his age in emerging facial wrinkles and graying hair; he had a history of run ins with the law, mental health evaluations, orders of protection placed against him by his own family, became steadily reclusive. Strongly indicating the swastika on his business building, growing fascination with Hitler and continued call in angry rants to his local radio station, writings stating he wanted to target police, government buildings was a manifestation of mental disease; hardly unheard of dual diagnosis encompassing cognitive impairment (dementia, Alzheimer’s proper,) and psychiatric, psychological disorder. As if wanting to do these things, actually following through, regardless your stated reason citing cases of Eliot Roger ‘the misogynist’ and Dylan Roof the ‘race war igniting racist’ doesn’t spell some kind of crazy by the very fact that it happened. Jason Brian Dalton (45), slightly younger, remains true to established patterns graying hair, visible aging, reports of problems at work, outbursts, described as having no conflict resolution skills, went from a stable job in customer service to a transient job driving an Uber, affording more downtime and isolation. When apprehended he claimed the Uber app ‘gave you an assignment,’ controlled his mind and body like artificial intelligence, ‘making him feel like a puppet’ compared the company logo, app symbol to a devil figure. During his court appearance he too had several outbursts resulting in him being literally carried out, removed from the courtroom as it witness broke down in hysterics seeing both him and his unpredictable behavior, eventually deemed fit to stand trial; a determination to be questioned, not because symptoms can’t be faked, people haven’t tried to hide behind ‘insanity’ to avoid jail, Ken Kesey did write One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, instead based on how he’s faking it. Who says an Uber app, piece of technology is taking over their body, giving them commands, assignments unless they are at minimum influenced by paranoia, a psychological diagnosis in and of itself; Aaron Alexis, people will recall, was the last gunman to talk about persons following him, keeping him awake by talking to him, sending microwaves through his body, was thrown out of army barracks for repeated nuisance noise complaints and only shot up the navy yard to silence aforementioned voices. Phillip Garrido convicted pedophile and kidnapper of Jaycee Dugard surpassing a long history as a sex offender, of one type or another, convicted on rape charges in the early 70’s, spending time in a mental institution showed one of his friends, the daughters he fathered by Jaycee in tow, a god box he built, according to Garrido god communicated with him through, claims on his blog he is god’s communicator, to the world one would guess; worse perhaps if he had gotten the mental health help needed his sexual deviance wouldn’t have been able to shatter so many lives. Dalton appearing unlikely to have followed the court proceedings of Robert Dear, the details on Alexis, no internet searches signaling he was gathering information to try and fake anything, their sole indicator of premeditation a gun purchase days before; few to this day comprehend James Holmes, the Aurora Colorado movie theater shooter, was medicated with anti-psychotics and anti-depressants in prison prior to the psychotic interview played in court, Jared Loughner, known for shooting former congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s at an open political rally event, was medicated exclusively for the purpose of rendering him fit to stand trial. Worth remembering fit to stand trial means legally sane, not to be confused with suffering no discernable mental illness; it, mental defects discussed, the insidious combo of mental disorder and dementia/senility explains, perhaps better than anything proposed to date, why Curtis Reeves, known for shooting the father of a toddler alleging he was hit with an unknown heavy object beforehand, was so apoplectic about cellphone use in that Florida movie theater, why he thought a bag of popcorn was a threat, because he wasn’t all there to begin with. Explains why one John Spooner thought shooting his teenage neighbor for allegedly stealing his guns, accusations he denied, said denial getting him unceremoniously, cold bloodedly killed, damming footage sealing his life in prison fate captured on his own home surveillance system, was somehow justifiable, he would avoid prison because ‘he didn’t mean to kill him.’ Examining recent news stories take the 51 year old Adam W. Purinton recently arrested shouting get out of my country to 2 men of Indian descent and a 3rd person immediately prior to opening fire on them, Trump supporter, voter but once more older, haggard, though missing common gray hair; 55 year old Rolando Cardenas openly identified by law enforcement as mentally ill allegedly responsible for a Las Vegas strip bus rampage killing one, after which he barricaded himself on the bus’s second floor, no discernable motive. Both mirroring, in age at least, the London shooter of parliament member Jo Cox, executed shortly before the Brexit vote, (52), shouting Brittan first before firing 2 shots, getting close enough to subsequently stab her too. Telling is cataloging differences between mental health, illness, disease treatment approaches there, throughout the U.K., Europe and here, it still yielded a similar type of violence; alluding to, if not a combination of physiological disturbance and age related cognitive impairment, senility, then age’s effect on physiological disturbance management and treatment, age’s effect, negatively, on psychological vulnerability, the psychologically vulnerable. Again it’s what set latter depicted persons off, echoing the previous paragraphs highlights only with dire consequences, devoid of fighting for your rights like Bundy thinks he is, fighting for a cause like Dear believed himself to be, mired in delusions the way Houser in retrospect was; opposite Kansas workplace shooter Cedric Ford sent over the edge by a restraining order to stay away from his girlfriend describing him in court papers as a man in need of a medical/psychological intervention, other workplace disputes dissolving into shootings where the person feared being fired or had been, the older man who sprayed a V for vendetta symbol on the wall of a school board meeting shouting about the loss of his sick wife’s job and along with her health insurance, huge life stressors known to stimulate mental instability. It’s small things, for Dalton a suspected wrong address fare pickup, for Curtis Reeves it was movie theater texting prior to start time, then when confronted calmly by his wife about the absurdity of his response to an annoyance and a heat of the moment thrown bag of popcorn, wagging his finger in her face telling her to shut the F- up; neighbor landscaping disputes ending in murder charges ‘gentleman’ in court doubling as a TV villain recounting documented altercations with the neighbor he eventually killed saying ‘stop cutting trees in a bone chillingly sinister voice. Interesting to see how many instances of gunned down neighbors over loud music, loud parties were perpetrated by older, balding, graying persons, 20/20’s neighbor from hell segment in 2013; featuring first a 48 year old man caught on tape being obnoxious but threading the fine line of the law, angry because he suspects his neighbor’s elderly mother called the cops about drugs bringing SWAT teams to his home, now this may sound like a large stress inducing incident bound to make anyone upset, prone to ‘losing it’ especially if they were erroneous charges. Left off listed scenario, the teeny, tiny, little detail, at the time 20/20 attempted to get his side of the story, he ran them off his property and called police suddenly shunning media attention; why, he was just slapped with felony drug charges, meaning whoever called the cops, neighbor, her mother appears justified. Exhibit 2 man fires landscaper, has to install thousands of dollars of surveillance equipment to catch him in the act of using chemicals to kills his grass, letting his dogs roam the other man’s property, egging his house and garage door, shooting nails into his driveway, throwing rocks, culminating in criminal mischief plus stalking charges, awaiting trial at time of story airing. A man, James Blair, age 50, who reportedly shot and killed his neighbor running over her face with the lawnmower; why, she opted to mow her lawn at night, compounding the senselessness she had just sold her home and was moving away from the area, no longer going to be there to annoy him. Missed in the relieved exhale that’s not my neighbor or commiseration possessing a similar, worse story to share, comment threads including revenge plots involving a clever combination of no trespassing signs, police report filings and shotguns filled with rubber bullets, beanbags, any non-lethal means and ‘the castle doctrine built into the justice system’ is that given childish antics are transpiring because home owners engaged in them, somewhat on both sides, are cognitively unwell or mentally unhealthy.

Want a lasting explanation to the craziness that is today’s American politics, look no further than those 4 categories of health problem; unfortunately what was until recently chalked up to Appalachia and southern living, isolated, willful, perpetual ignorance adding a healthy dose of lifetime religious indoctrination, spitting out extreme political stances at adds with a majority of Americans’ opinions, is likely brain disease. It explains Michelle Bachmann and Sara Palin’s abysmal comprehension of history despite being educated in the American height of educational prowess, the latter’s assertion Paul Revere’s ride was to warn the British, not alert colonists the British were coming. It explains the totality of the tea party, conveniently renamed the freedom caucus, platform complete with congressional, presidential candidates whose beliefs and campaign performances should qualify them for medical evaluation, open beds in hospital psyche wards all over America not public office. On some level we knew this referencing the debate performances ‘12 or ‘16 of Rick Perry expediently dubbing him Rick, does he need medication, is he too medicated Perry, the other famous political Rick, Rick ‘sanitarium’ Santorum given the moniker after several unusual statements claiming amniocentesis, used to test for birth defects, severe genetic abnormalities in utero lead to more abortion or that birth control was a license for teens, sexually active persons to do unnatural things i.e. premarital sex with a side jab at homosexuality thrown in. Still beside amusing and just assumedly ignorant displays came clearly mentally unwell Christine O’Donnell who compared masturbation to adultery, didn’t think condoms could prevent AIDS and famously had to make an ad assuring evangelical voters she wasn’t a witch post candid admissions to dabbling in the ‘art’ as teenage rebellion. Sharon Angle, older possibly cognitively impaired, who in addition to not knowing how social security worked, literally thinking the surplus funds, funds used to pay out benefits were contained in a lockbox in West Virginia, but wanting to privatize it and Medicare; thought processes come to light after she again in 2016 tried to run for national Nevada’s senate seat, post the retirement announcement of sitting member Harry Reid. Angle apparently believed the conspiracy theorist John Britch society and their assertion fluoride in water is a communist mind control plot, not an effort at tooth health, especially in children; the first to talk about second amendment people in 2010 suggesting if you don’t get your way politically you can shoot your opposition a full 6 years prior to Donald Trump. Just 2 of the plethora of lower level political wanna be’s that should make us want to ask more questions of our to be elected officials, the congressman who made his dog chief of staff, the guy in Ohio whose hobby is dressing up in Nazi replica garb and doing WWII reenactments, expecting to be accepted to office, Jim Russell running in a New York district who’s against race mixing, Art Robinson advocating racist British literature almost 2 centuries old used as part of his home schooling curriculum; Georgia state senate majority leader Chip Rogers’ seminar on how Obama and the United Nations were utilizing a cold world era mind control technique to get citizens to surrender their freedoms. The Wilfred Brimley much sillier look alike who couldn’t wrap his head around the number of black people who turned out to vote, wanting to send mailers out to find out where they were returned from to be absolutely sure those, never seen before blacks, were registered to vote where they voted, then tried to defend himself against racism criticism citing the back friend he plays basketball with, also formerly Maine’s RNC chairman; no defense against probable senility though. Jan Brewer, former Arizona governor’s brain freezes and ramblings about beheadings of U.S. citizens on U.S. soil by Mexican drug cartels could be signs of everything from mini-strokes to bona fide brain damage, for which she sought no medical attention yet going on to achieve a second term; the many incoherent statements of Newt Gingrich over the decades, including exploration to the moon for mineral extraction, later colonization all to keep kids interested in science he revealed in a 2012 debate. Mike Huckabee perhaps most famously known now for defending child pedophile, porn addict, adulterer Josh Duggar calling his actions youthful indiscretion; I myself broke down his liberals don’t make sense rant showing how he’d missed and mangled most of the facts he was vehemently upset about. His scathing comments about Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z accusing him of pimping her out based on a stage performance with explicit moves “best left to the privacy of her bedroom,” bashing the Obama’s parenting for letting their kids listen to such poisonous music, his comparing gay marriage to drinking/ swearing more doses of irony considering who he supports. Carl Palladio running for governor of New York whose signature plan was to house public assistance recipients in unused prisons giving them personal hygiene skills they didn’t get in dysfunctional homes, who before running for governor was known for racist, pornographic materials he regularly sent out, who spent his short gubernatorial run accusing his rival of an extramarital affair suddenly denying his own, he years earlier spoke candidly about, ragingly homophobic shouting about ‘the gay agenda.’ A name we’ve heard before Steve King famous for teaming up with Herman Cain in 2012 touting an electrified border fence with a sign saying it could kill you, and who by 2014 wanted to verify gays, asserting the constitution’s section on civil rights doesn’t cover self-professed behavior and cannot, according to King, be independently verified as well as ‘can be willfully changed.’ If you’re confused don’t be alarmed he isn’t making any real sense, but what’s scary, are the lengths to which other countries have gone to identify, verify homosexuality. Uganda’s president in 2016 exposed for subjecting possibly gay men to terrible invasive, painful, even physically harmful anal probes resulting in bleeding, that same year a judge in Kenya upheld the practice to ‘define sexuality’ part of sweeping anti-gay legislation touched off by Christian missionaries to the countries; could we really go that far here considering LGBT rights regression a measly 2 months into Trump’s presidency? King landing himself in more hot water this early into 2017 when he tweeted about culture and demographics being our destiny; here’s the part getting him justifiably raked over the coals, “we can’t restore our civilization with someone else’s babies” an obvious slam at immigration, immigrants. Seeking more current examples apart from the latter tidbit on King, last year Maine governor Paul LePage’s unhinged, expletive filled tirade to a fellow lawmaker he mistakenly thought called him racist prompting fellow politicians to call for an intervention on Mr. LePage, who floated the idea of resigning post incident quickly changing his mind. Ben Carson neurosurgeon no one had ever heard of until he announced his presidential candidacy in 2016, independent the implausible stories in his autobiography, his declaration a Muslim American couldn’t and shouldn’t be president due to their religion, implying a religious test to hold public office, expressly against the constitution, why was he comparing Hillary Clinton to Lucifer; tipping the outrageous scale, because she had a college professor fond of a book, wrote a college paper about said book where the author, different from the professor, called the devil the first radical. What is this the political version, personal life version of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon a fun, silly game meant to entertain based of the six degrees of separation theory positing your only 6 acquaintances away from any person on the planet? Understanding, it’s just a theory, not scientific law and doesn’t mean, if remotely true Hillary Clinton identifies with, more to his point, worships the devil. There’s the Texas commissioner who sought out a Jesus shot on taxpayers’ dime, shot peddled by a ‘doctor’ whose license was revoked in Ohio, who has an extensive criminal record with highlights of tax evasion, mail and healthcare fraud. Another George Burns wanna be, former senator kicked off a plane flight after becoming irate when the pilot asked 10 passengers to move in order to evenly distribute the plane’s weight (you know avoid crashing), becoming loud and unruly, encouraging others to disembark with him yammering about standing up because if you don’t who will. Contemplate the fall from grace of former New York city mayor Rudy Giuliani once heralded a hero for seeing the city though aftermaths of 9-11, widely respected well after leaving the governorship for his leadership in such turbulent times, often called upon to comment and advise America, other governors on dealing with violence, unrest, home grown terror threats in their area; who apparently forgot when 9-11 took place (before Clinton and Obama were in the Whitehouse as secretary of state and president respectively), bragged about and was touted by the sitting president as part of the travel ban draft 1, called upon to ‘show him how to do it legally’ only to have both drafts fail indefinitely with a final restraining order again issued this week. Is there anything other than cognitive decline that explains Giuliani’s statements, his abysmal travel ban input, growing conspiracy theories throughout the years, out there comments? ‘The EPA is brainwashing our kids” a direct quote from Jim Inhofe republican senator trying to defend Trump proposed budget cuts all but shutting down the EPA saying they were simply poised to remove sections filling children’s heads with propaganda, things that weren’t true; uniquely ironic taking into account he stood on the senate floor holding a snowball trying to convince his fellow lawmakers, snow, the amount of it received in D.C. was proof of global warming’s falsehood, also the author of a conspiracy theorist book calling global warming, what else, a hoax, information revealed his largest contributors are, wait for it, oil and gas reaching almost 2 million dollars, gee wonder why he thinks the way he does added to the gray hair and wrinkles that is. CPAC just had its annual convention in February featuring an ‘expert’ convinced sharia law has infiltrated the courts and the police, faith communities and interfaith dialog is a ‘bridge that only goes one way, toward Islam,’ because we choose not to paint all Muslims with the same brush, distinguish between the peaceful and the extremist radical of whatever faith; our government and national security ‘are so deeply impenetrated by the Muslim Brotherhood’ actually training local police, them in turn training MB ‘front groups.’ One guesses as opposed to the down home, good old boys in say Ferguson Missouri using surplus military gear they’d never trained with before to subdue protesters chanting hands up don’t shoot and ‘armed’ with empty plastic water bottles someone purportedly threw at police already in full riot suits; held alongside the MRAP military vehicle local police tried to use to defuse a hostage situation where a man had barricaded himself into a home. Or we know, the Alabama church seeking its own police force, but they’re Christians so that’s ok; can you imagine if Muslims asked for the same thing, never mind it’s fundamental unconstitutionality that you can’t have small religious, separatist enclaves enforcing their own set of laws, it’s one law for everyone nationwide period. Rounding things out with the orange buffoon himself Donald Trump scraping an Electoral College victory while Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by 3 million more votes, president since the start of his campaign that has been plagued by questions, rumors surrounding his mental health, emotional stability. Psychiatrists, psychologists coming out of the woodwork, damning professional ethics in an attempt to alert the public something isn’t right with him, all the more fuel added to the fire when he not only refused to disclose his medical records in the tradition of presidents past but found a hippy doctor to write a ‘joke’ letter in 5 minutes extoling the wonderfulness of Trump’s health. Morphing into petitions to please have him medically evaluated, a focus group just this week calling his behavior thus far impulsive, chaotic, supports confused or outright abandoning him; the aptly named Trump troubadour feeling hurt, disappointed and betrayed after attending 45 rallies, voting for him believing he would initiate services to combat the opioid epidemic, killing the man’s son for want of insurance, treatment options, get addicts treatment only to try and pass a healthcare bill stripping away government help for what little services, treatment options it does have. There’s even a clinical name for what he may have, delusional senile dementia according to a Daily Kos article dated last year brilliantly written to illuminate the president’s potentially precarious mental health. So it should come as no earth shattering surprise if politicians, who are regular people choosing to run for office, able to gather the funds to run for office suffer from these brain disease, mental illness induced ideas voters, who voted for these baffling candidates landing a few into their respective offices, possess some of the identical problems being in identical age brackets too. Who could forget the 2008 John McCain supporter plainly old, complete with a bed head hairstyle telling the republican candidate rival candidate Obama wasn’t an American, was instead an Arab, expediently shut down by Mr. McCain. We all sat with our mouths gaping at footage of a Trump rally where a supporter stood up and said we have a problem is this country it’s called Muslims…we know our current president (Obama) is one, you know he’s not even an American asking Trump ‘when can we get rid of them;’ no such correction forthcoming. Probably most memorable from the next clip was the CNN reporter’s reaction, but examine closely the woman asserting voting is a privilege and you have to be legal’s age, formation of wrinkles on her face, a dead giveaway along with other panel members projected ages. Check out the panel of New Hampshire voters, a sample of varying older persons, who still believe there were busloads and busloads of illegals taken to the polls, more aptly a get out the vote initiative driving registered voters to their polling place to more easily exercise their right, who grade the president’s job performance an A citing things like the travel ban that was rendered moot by the courts, and when confronted with his own promises of things to achieve on day 1 that still haven’t been done, ISIS wasn’t defeated in 30 days they point to we usually give presidents 100 days, 100 days he didn’t give himself. Our genital grabbing municipality board member and this sweater vest wearing Trump supporter have a singular attribute in common they think the rules of civil society, basic order no longer apply because either they voted for Trump or Trump is now president ranting against black people at a Starbucks because his coffee was taking too long claiming white discrimination; bigger question what if it isn’t limited to bigoted obnoxiousness and inflated sense of self-importance brought on by bad parenting, worse social, societal examples and is instead mental disease, defect, psychological illness?

Now in examining what to do about this, how to move forward our intimal knee jerk reaction is to prescribe compassion, suggest leaving people believed to be mentally, cognitively unwell alone if seen out in public being obnoxious, only intervene if they look to be a danger to self or others; shrug it off, rather in the spirit of the Madea movie franchise, chalk it up to a natural response to disappearing respect, society’s reaped consequence for its total disrespect, unbridled contempt for older persons, exactly what not to do. First is to understand people behaving like this aren’t cute, cool, the younger generation’s comeuppance, there was the Medea movie titled Madea goes to Jail where she was finally sentenced to incarceration for her erratic behavior and Dr. Phil McGraw guest starred providing therapy to get to the bottom of her non-existent anger management. It is to tell ourselves and older persons we are doing away with what is embodied in these 2 quotes taken from a article describing what happened at a Ted Cruz rally right before he dropped out of the race, you know the one where he ignited a firestorm suggesting a young heckler be spanked despite his already being escorted out. “It was one of those moments when the cowardice of the conservative movement was laid bare. Unable to defend conservative views, even to a small child, the crowd hooted and hollered for the use of brute force. While Cruz used the word “respect”, what he was not asking for was respect. This was all about extracting unearned deference with the threat of violence. Does anything better illustrate the toxicity of conservative ideology better than the enthusiasm for beating children?” “…That’s because spanking has a symbolic value to the right, one that is far too precious to give way to mundane concerns about efficacy and human decency. Spanking appeals because it is about asserting authority. The spanker is in charge not because they are in the right or because they have earned that authority, but because they are bigger and might makes right. It doesn’t even matter that spanking doesn’t work. The assertion of authoritarian power is all that matters. The moment at the Cruz campaign really crystallized this. The reason given for why the child should be quiet while Cruz is speaking isn’t because of basic good manners or respect for democratic systems. No, the reason is that Cruz is an adult and the protester is a child, and therefore the child owes deference. The adult can be a screaming moron who is spewing nonsense, but the child is expected to just sit there and take it, not because of any legitimate reason, but under the threat of violence.” We are done doling out unearned deference to the older person ‘in charge,’ barking ‘suggestions’ at anyone younger than them, not because they are correct or have earned the authority through demonstrating their wisdom, value of their opinions, skill at task X, but because age, rather than might, makes right in their twisted view of society and if you don’t follow that line of ‘logic’ be prepared to endure all the things depicted in this article and more; particularly terrifying, ways you can lose your life for choosing to be an individual, making your own choices while infringing on the rights of no one. Senior citizens, sporters of gray hair, emerging wrinkles, national bullion your age no longer gives you carte blanche to do and say whatever you want to whomever you want only to be politely ignored, silently indulged instead of called out for your obnoxiousness, racism, bigotry, harassment, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, related legal charges. Secondly it is to settle once and for all within our minds, our social, public discourse these people aren’t just odd eccentrics to be excused, to be viewed as don’t worry about it, to be explained as oh that’s just so and so he’s always been that way, when you’ve got a lot of money you can behave pretty much however you wish, but probably suffer from a medical, psychological problem in need of treatment, not apathy, indifference, an attitude of oh well, does it really matter; yes it really matters and here’s why. Telling is the 9th circuit court managing lifetime appointments talked about addressing looming senility among its members head on via articles published in 2015; simultaneously we don’t have an answer, while desperately needing an answer, to what do you do regarding voters, politicians, shudder presidents, on down to coworkers, family members who are showing signs of the 4 core explained mental conditions, who don’t possess the cognitive awareness to vote responsibly, do their jobs adequately without instituting 21st century Jim Crow tactics on par with literacy tests and poll taxes. ‘Issue tests,’ to screen whether or not you understand ballot topics enough to vote on them, conspiracy theory screening to weed out those who think there was mass illegal voting by non-citizens and equally implausible nonsense al-a Alex Jones who told listeners of his radio show Clinton and Obama’s alleged smelling like sulfur meant they were literal demons, psychological exam results before we vote in a candidate. More invasive screenings considering employers already want to subject their employees to forced genetic tests and have access to the results bills supported by many of the same conservative republican types under the guise of wellness programs mirroring smoking cessation, employee gyms, yoga classes exc. damn privacy, damn heavy fines, damn implications of employees being denied job opportunities on the basis of what major diseases you might be susceptible to, your children might be susceptible to, your intentions to get pregnant and is that too expensive for me the employer. Third, worse the ultimate tragedy is much of this could potentially be reversed confusion and memory loss plaguing older persons with diet, vitamins and nutrition supplements, brain exercises, sleep, getting seniors off the wads of medication, medication known to have adverse side effects on older persons, competing medications, poorly communicating doctors prescribing multiple medications for the same thing. Senior continuing to take medications they no longer need lacking follow-up evaluation, reevaluation for condition X, a shortage of doctors specializing in gerontology, treatment of older persons; can we create a whole new class of drugs exclusively for senior citizens with common ailments sans the recurring drug reactions with traditional meds on sensitive systems. We could actually greatly help these people, restore their dignity, right to reverence, their claims to wisdom by instituting basic cognition tests to be administered at least once yearly when patients come in to their doctors office, if something is off send them for further testing; regularly asking patients including question about smoking, substance abuse, depressed mood indicators of possible addiction, psychological disturbance recently built into check, up yearly exam criteria, if they feel confused, routinely forget where they place items like their car keys, how well they sleep, if they bring a friend or loved one to the appointment, getting their perspective on those questions, remitting for testing if necessary. Cutting down on the need for gerontology specialist doctors incorporating greater attention to patients prime aged for perimenopause, menopause impressing on patients there are treatments for unwanted, uncomfortable symptoms; on the lookout for low T (low testosterone) in men, b-12 absorption, vitamin, mineral deficiencies that can lead to a whole host of problems least of all mental decline, memory loss, confusion. No it isn’t time for younger generations to change their behavior, society to change it’s view on older persons, return to the reverence of yesteryear with no thought to the changes having taken place; rather to change their perspective on what the behavior we’re seeing means, change our failing approach to how we handle it instead of not handling it at all.
